Our Legacy

Founded in 1957, Rio Pinar has long been a cornerstone of Central Florida’s golf history. 

 
The original course design was crafted by architect Mark Mahannah; in 1995, modern updates by Lloyd Clifton refreshed the layout — improving green surfaces, bunkers, and fairway definition while preserving the course’s classic character.  

Over the decades, the club has welcomed some of golf’s greatest legends. From Arnold Palmer to Lee Trevino, Hale Irwin, Julius Boros and many more — champions whose victories helped build Rio Pinar’s storied reputation.  

From 1966 through 1978 the course hosted the prestigious Florida Citrus Open (now the Arnold Palmer Invitational), marking Rio Pinar as a key stop in professional golf.  
In subsequent years the club also welcomed the Lady Citrus Open on the LPGA Tour — further cementing our legacy in women’s professional golf.  

Today, Rio Pinar remains a semi-private gem — honoring its past while embracing the future for members and guests alike.  

About The Course & Experience

• 18-hole championship layout — Par 72, stretching to over 7,200 yards from the back Orange tees.  
• A traditional Florida parkland design: mature pines and oaks, strategic bunkers, water hazards, and rolling terrain that reward both strategy and skill.  
• Five tee boxes accommodate golfers of all skill levels — from beginners wanting a relaxed round to seasoned amateur and professionals golfers.  
• Practice facilities including a Trackman practice range, world class short-game complex, and putting green — ideal for anyone who wants to work on their game and improve.

Our clubhouse and course reflect decades of golf culture — but we continue upgrading. Recent renovations include improved greens, updated bunkers and fairways, remodeled clubhouse and pro shop — ensuring the heritage feels as good to play today as it did in 1957.
